Are you dreaming big for 2019?
Aquaman is topping the charts in cinemas around the world as a must-see Christmas movie, I was delighted to find out that my cousin’s daughter, Brianna, scored the part of being the body double for the main female star of the movie, Amber Heard.
Amber Heard is a leading Hollywood figure, and at 32, had to squeeze into a skintight costume. But as nothing is quite what it seems in Hollywood, the body you see in the movie is not hers. Brianna almost missed the audition too, as she was at work at Bunnings, a hardware chain in Australia. But one call from her modeling company has transformed her life. While she has been modeling for many years, this is her first involvement in a feature movie. It’s a dream come true.
So over to you (and me, for that matter). What are you hoping for in 2019? What are you dreaming about and praying about? Have you had a chance yet to escape the hustle and bustle of Christmas and sit down with a pad and pen to write some goals for this coming year?
As the saying goes, ‘if you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time.’
When I plan out the year, I look to another popular saying. It is to ‘aim for the moon and you will hit the stars.’ It simply means that if you aim really high, while you might not quite get there, you’ll at least hit the stars, which is a lot higher than where you are now.
Sadly, goal setting is only done by a small percentage of people. According to research, in America alone, less than 3 percent of people set goals, and less than 1 percent review and rewrite their goals on a daily basis. So in a country of 326 million people, less than 10 million of them set goals.
Most people are just carried along by whatever life serves up to them because they have not set a definitive plan for where they want to go.
As we enter a new year, I want to encourage you to get rid of small thinking. It doesn’t help anyone. Quit thinking that we are somehow just meant to make the time pass on this earth while we wait for our reward in heaven. There is so much to be done, and there are so many talents that have been placed in you by God that He requires you to use to make a difference in this world.
So go and set your goals, dream big, and make this one life you have here really count. I want to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year, and let’s aim high together.
