An Australian pub in Australia’s major city has been criticized for a Facebook post promoting its Easter opening hours.

Mary’s Newtown, an inner-city club, posted the image below on their Facebook page, before deleting it due to criticism. the post stated, “Jesus got hammered for his sins, you can too.”

Followers weren’t impressed, with one writing: “Absolutely disgusting! Not only should they take it down, they should also apologise for such a disrespectful act!”

Christian group Christian Lives Matter took offense to the post, stating that if the post was not removed, they would organize a prayer group at the door of the restaurant on Good Friday. This prompted Australian TV programme A Current Affair to run a poll, asking Australians if they found the post offensive.

At the time of publishing this article, 51% of respondents found the post funny, with 49% finding it offensive.
