Christian American football players have given thanks to God after helping the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl.

Quarterback Nick Foles was named the ‘Most Valuable Player’ as his team defeated five-time winners the New England Patriots 41-33 in the early hours of this morning.

Just moments after the victory, Foles told a worldwide audience of over 100 million people: “All glory to God”.

In the build-up to the game, he spoke about how his Christian faith “means everything” to him.

“I’m a believer in Jesus Christ and that’s first and foremost. That’s everything.”

The faith of Foles and other players was highlighted by Christian and secular media outlets before the game, including an in-depth article in The Washington Post.

Defensive player Malcolm Jenkins told one news website that “faith is a really important part of this team”.

While Zach Ertz shared with reporters how he has “truly dedicated his life to Christ”. Ertz scored the game-winning touchdown in the closing minutes.

Star quarterback Carson Wentz, who was injured and did not play in the game, has been sharing his Christian faith with his colleagues since he joined the team.
