When TobyMac opened up about his son’s struggles
While the news of TobyMac’s son’s death have rocked the Christian world, the singer has spoken out in the past about struggles in his life.
Truett Foster Mckeehan passed away in his home Wednesday evening. He was just 21 years of age.
It is reported that the Davidson County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed he died Wednesday after medics responded to a cardiac arrest call at the family’s home.
In 2018, his father, Grammy Award wining artist TobyMac, launched a new album called The Elements, where he discussed the challenges of raising his then 20 year-old son.
At the time of last year’s release, in reference to the song ‘Scars’, Toby stated in an interview with The Tennessean that the song was “deeply personal and for me, it is about my son. He is 20 years old and he left home and he is doing his own thing now.
“It’s also about watching him go through tough times and get cut and bruised. Watching people you love go through hard things is tough, and I want people to know that they are not alone.”
Truett had stepped out on his own into a rap career, moving to Los Angeles in the process and was trying to make it in a cut-throat industry.
His family is heartbroken over the tragic event, with TobyMac sharing a tribute to his son on Facebook. He stated that, ““We don’t follow God because we have some sort of under-the-table deal with Him, like, we’ll follow you if you bless us. We follow God because we love Him. It’s our honor. He is the God of the hills and the valleys. And He is beautiful above all things.”
