It has been an horrendous year for the wife of Ravi Zacharias, who has not only had to deal with the death of her husband, but also a full blown investigation into sexual abuse allegations.

Ravi, who died almost one year ago, has since been the subject of allegations of sexual abuse. His ministry, Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM), has had to face constant allegations, to the point where the ministry hired the law firm Miller & Martin to complete an independent audit on allegations surrounding sexual assault.

The result of the audit sent RZIM into damage control, with the ministry releasing the following statement: “It is with shattered hearts that we issue this statement about the allegations against RZIM’s Founder, Ravi Zacharias.

“Following allegations made in late August of 2020 that Ravi had engaged in sexual misconduct and abuse in connection with two day spas, we commissioned Miller & Martin PLLC, a law firm with experience in corporate and sex crimes investigations, to conduct an independent investigation. We gave Miller & Martin a broad scope to pursue any avenues that they judged to be relevant to the accusations, and we emphasized that our only purpose for the investigation was to ascertain the full truth.

“Having received the results of the investigation, we are publicly releasing the investigation report in the exact form that we received it. We have been waiting to make an extended statement in the hope that the full findings of the investigation would allow us to speak more accurately and meaningfully. We also wanted to ensure Miller & Martin’s independence in their investigation, assessments, and reporting of the findings.

“To be victimized by unwanted sexual contact, advances, and behavior is horrendous. It is diametrically opposed to everything we believe about the value and dignity of every single person. We believe not only the women who made their allegations public but also additional women who had not previously made public allegations against Ravi but whose identities and stories were uncovered during the investigation. Tragically, witnesses described encounters including sexting, unwanted touching, spiritual abuse, and rape. We are devastated by what the investigation has shown and are filled with sorrow for the women who were hurt by this terrible abuse.

“These women told their stories on conditions of confidentiality and anonymity, and we fully intend to respect their wishes by not disclosing their names or any other identifying information. We are deeply grateful to all of the courageous women and other witnesses who came forward in this investigation.”

Margie Zacharias has sat in the background while all of the turbulence surrounding her late husband has gone on around her. However, she has recently broken her silence. In an email sent to followers of Ravi and published on her son’s ‘Defending Ravi‘ blog, Margie explained how she started going through Ravi’s belongings as she was given 90 days by RZIM to leave their house and “wanted to be certain that nothing was left of Ravi that anyone could take and twist and create a story to use against him”.

“I found multiple cards from people, including some therapists, thanking him for the blessing he was to them, for his encouragement to them, for leading them into a deeper walk with the Lord or being instrumental in bringing them to the Lord,” she said. “I found letters from people offering him all kinds of advice in boosting his energy levels, on staying healthy, on making his hair grow, on treating his back.

“I would also like to tell you that both Naomi (her daughter) and I have had frequent text messages from the therapist that treated his back most often in recent years, affirming the love and respect for him and for us that she and her family still hold and telling us they continue to pray for us and are here for us. She and her family were present at the dedication of the RZIM building.

“All of this is to tell you what I did not find: no suspicious financial documents, no financial or real estate arrangements that I did not know about. No investments that I was not aware of. No suspicious letters or cards of a romantic nature from anyone but me. No suspicious expenditures. No products to treat conditions unknown to me.

“In short, I want you, his family, to know beyond a shadow of doubt that I found not one suspicious receipt, letter, card, expenditure…absolutely nothing to support the claims being made or the charges against him.

“There is absolutely no way that Ravi is guilty as charged, convicted, canceled and executed, some even going so far as to claim that he never knew the Lord. I knew him, inside and out. I trust him & believe in him no less than I did on May 18th last year when he called me to him and kissed me as long as he had the strength, his last physical act in his life. It is not because I am in denial. It is because I knew him and because there is absolutely no evidence to support anything contrary.”

In February, the head of RZIM, Vince Vitale, issued a public apology after the legal audit was released. Meanwhile, the UK ministry of RZIM has undergone a name change in an attempt to secure its future. Now known as ‘The Zacharias Trust’, the ministry is now an independent UK-based charity, which also operates OCCA The Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics. Until late, it was branded as ‘Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM)’.
